Nice girls don't make the first move.

Not sure why, but it's true. When and if you get an unsolicited email from a girl (You're lucky and not), they almost always reek of desperation, and from experience, they aren't much in the looks department.

Not saying you should ignore those women because you never know what might happen, but the desirable ones tend to know they're desirable, and as you can imagine they have no incentive to reach out to you, because they're getting like 50+ emails per day and can take their pick.

So, if you want to get the good ones (to date) you have to put yourself out there.

The third are Social Network Services. These are free sites that allow you to build your base of friends and potentially find someone to date in the process. Such services include MySpace, Friendster and Orkut.

The fourth are Niche Dating Services. These are services aimed at bringing together people, to date, who share a specific common passion or desire. Such services include Green Friends (vegetarians), Equestrian Cupid (horse lovers), Millionaire Match (rich singles), Age Match (Intergenerational Dating), and Senior Match (older singles).
